Hang gliding is an air sport in which the participant flies a light and un-motorized foot launchable aircraft called a hang glider. Most of these gliders are made of aluminum or composite-framed fabric wing. Pilots generally control the aircraft by shifting body weight however other devices, including some flight control systems, may also be used. In the sport's early days, participants were restricted to gliding down small hills for a flight of few minutes however; modern technology has made it possible for the gliders to fly for hours and over large distances.
