Hunting is the oldest activity known to mankind. It is the practice of pursuing animals for food, recreation, or trade. In modern use, the term generally means regulated and legal hunting, and is separated from poaching, which is the killing or capture of animals that are not allowed to be killed or captured for varying reasons and is contrary to law. Hunted animals are referred to as game animals, and usually include small mammals, migratory and non-migratory game birds. Although recreational hunters choose to be selective hunters, many people hunt to enjoy the outdoors.
