The Dominican Republic World Music Festival will be having 3 days of harmony commencing on the 23rd of January, 2009 and ending Sunday, January 25th in what promises to be the first of it’s kind on the Dominincan Shores in Sosua/Cabarete – Sea Horse Ranch. Gates open at 6PM and the concert performances begin at 8PM.
Friday Jan. 23rd
8:00 PM - First line up at 8 is “Soulibre” an exceptionally talented band, well known along the North Coast for their energetic diverse performances. A mix of upbeat and uplifting reggae tinted groves.
9:00 PM - “SonAbril”, a 9 member band from Santo Domingo. Roots reggae, ska, funk, jazz, rock, bosanova, merenque, bachata and other Caribbean rhythms.
Friday’s final act of the night is “Groundation”. 9 member band from California and Jamaica, they just arrived back from an European tour, with 10 years on the Reggae scene.
Saturday Jan 24th
Opening – “Son-Cristo” Full of soul and melody. Adolfo Faringthon of the group is a celebrated artists well as a talented musician. Smooth sounds.
Next on Stage – “El Batey” and take us back to roots sounds. The unique vibe is a crafted from a huge variety of instruments including more traditional sounds created from palos, gaga, salves, congos, merenque, bachata.
Saturday’s final act - “Xiomara Fortuna” finishes the night with backing and arrangement from her Santo Domingo crew, an engaging Dominican Ensembel featuring drums, percussion, bass, keyboards and horns.
Sunday Jan 25th

Next on Stage – “El Prodigio” A famous merenque accordionist from the Dominican Republic, well known for his fast instrumental solos.
Sunday’s Grand Finale – The long awaited return to the North Coast “Profetica”. Their music is rich in sound & rythm. Its musical foundation is roots reggae with touches of salsa, bomba, ska, jazz, funk, mento, Brazillian music and a synthesis of Afro-Caribbeanroots. 13 member band hailing from Puerto Rico.
